Children breathing during sleep tend to be hyperactive and aggressive, and emotional symptoms and difficulty in relationships with peers, according to news Top News.
The study by experts at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in New York (USA) based on 11 000 children were followed for 6 years and is the largest research and most comprehensive of its kind.
"This is the strongest evidence to date suggests that snoring, mouth breathing and sleep apnea can have behavioral consequences and social emotional for children," said study leader Karen Bonouck, professor of obstetrics, gynecology and women's health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine said.
"Parents and pediatricians should pay more attention to the sleep disorder breathing (SDB) in children right from the first year of life," said Professor Bonouck.
SDB is a general term for problems related to sleep, mainly snoring (which is often accompanied by mouth breathing) and sleep apnea.
The most common SDB in children aged 2-6 years old, but also occurs in younger children.
